Artist’s Statement: I am an award-winning Gourd Artist who was introduced to gourds in 2007 while still living in my home state of Kansas. I had wood-carving skills and became intrigued by another artist’s use of color and wood-burning techniques on gourds. As well as wood-burning, carving, and painting I began to add coiling and twining to my gourds. Coiling became my favorite technique. I developed a way to dye the cords to match the colors I use on the gourds. I now use an open coiling method, allowing the flow of the cord to become part of the design. My vividly colored, beautifully coiled gourds can be seen at various shows in the Portland area.
